USA Men’s Basketball Favored In 2012 Olympic Betting Odds

Just two weeks after the completion of the NBA Season, The USA Men’s Basketball team will begin preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The month-long exhibition tour will pit the United States against three of the top-3 favorites to win gold at the Olympics, according to Bet365: Spain, Brazil and Argentina. They wrap up in Barcelona, 20 years after the famed Dream Team rocketed to stardom at the 1992 games in Spain.

Perennial favorites, Team USA will again see heavy action in Vegas as they come in as overwhelming 1/8 favorites, according to Bet365’s 2012 Olympic Betting Odds.

That’s what happens with eight of your 20 rostered players already have gold medals from the 2008 Olympics and 10 were members of the 2010 World Championship-winning squad. The United States has won gold in four of the last five Summer Olympics, only missing out in 2004.

The team will begin it’s training with an exhibition match against Brazil on July 16 at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. That will begin a slow migration to Manchester on July 17-19 that will culminate with another exhibition against the host team, Great Britain on July 19.

Team Spain and Team Argentina, two of the top three teams in the FIBA World Rankings, will then face Team USA in the final tune-up before the games start in August.

“This tour will be a very challenging schedule of five exhibition games that will each be played in outstanding environments and will be memorable for all basketball fans. The team’s training and these games will be absolutely critical in our preparation and we know that each of the teams will pose significant and unique challenges,” USA and Duke University head coach Mike Kzryzewski aid at a press conference in Colorado.

Spain is second in Olympic Betting Odds only to the United States at 6/1, followed by France (16/1), Brazil (25/1) and Argentina (25/1).
